The client

The customer services department of a major transport provider.

The technology

Incorrect ticketing was depriving the provider of valuable revenue. To combat this, ticket inspectors across the network were issued with V38r-07 enterprise digital assistants, each connected to a portable ticket printer. These systems replaced the older, manual ticket machines. The new systems allowed the inspectors to issue tickets to passengers to any destination, and automatically calculated the correct fare. These also provided up-to-date travel information, allowing inspectors to provide passengers with accurate advice on their travel requirements.

The benefits

By ensuring all passengers are paying the correct fare, the transport provider has increased revenues from ticket sales. The technology has also decreased incidences of staff fraud, as a running total of all ticket transactions is easily tallied against takings. These increased revenues have offset the outlay involved in implementing the solution, covering the cost of hardware and initial training.
